1990 Porsche 911 (964) 4.0L

As time passes 964 Carrera 2 manuals are even more coveted by enthusiasts - and this has to be one of the ultimate examples found in Australia.

Mechanically, this is a no-expense-spared build by Mick and his team at Corse Motorsport. Quick highlights are a special 4.0L engine using Motec management, custom intake & titanium exhaust, CAE shifter, trick EXE-TC coilovers rolling on pure motorsport gold BBS E88s. And dripping with carbon fibre details everywhere. The interior detail is no-less impressive and John describes this as “one of his best jobs ever”, which is really saying something.

The interior palette consists of a combination of classic Cork and Black Nappa leather, perfectly bridged by the Weiss Gold roll-cage (which is also used as an accent colour in the engine bay). Although absolutely everything is wrapped and stitched in soft Nappa, the focus is on performance, and far less decorative without the use of popular historical fabrics. The deeper you look in this interior, the more you detail you uncover.

The rear seat delete consists of a bespoke carbon tub that’s been painstakingly wrapped and stitched in black Nappa - a piece of sculpture by itself. Accordingly, the carpet that usually lines the inner sill has also been replaced with carbon mouldings, also wrapped in black leather. The entire door panel is devoid of carpet replaced by Cork leather. It’s not something you typically notice at first, but deleting the standard air-cooled carpet from factory gives the interior a subtlety modernised feel which is so much more special. When you lift the door pocket lid, it’s still stitch-perfect and lined with a factory Porsche fabric..

German-made CAE shifters seem to be the go-to modification for performance, but aesthetically they’re difficult to integrate into the console. As with the Amazon Green 964 RUF, the transmission section of the console needed to be lengthen and then the handbrake panel shortened to make the installation work seamlessly.

Similarly challenging is integrating the MOTEC display - a bespoke bracket was fabricated and oriented towards the driver, and wrapped in black Nappa to match the other black sections of the interior such as the retried upper dash.

Period-correct Recaro Pole Positions have been installed, but reupholstered in Cork Nappa, with the seat-backs painted to match the black exterior body. Even the seatbelt receptacles and stalks have their own leather covers. Under the passenger seat is a Fire Stryker (also known as Element in the US) fire extinguisher wrapped in a Cork leather sleeve with the Porsche logo embossed on it. The seat mount itself is also wrapped in leather (John couldn’t help himself).

It goes without saying this 964 build looks as good as it drives. The fine detail in the choice of materials, the workmanship in trimming the pieces and the slightly restrained aesthetic has come together to create something we’re truly proud of, and made this 964 one of a kind.
